In practice...

 

What you know becomes significant when it can be applied with meaning and effect.  Each year I enthusiastically (and meaningfully) support aspiring entrepreneurs and new venture capitalists.  Many don't go forward and many don't succeed (under typical terms) but all are hooked on the 'e' lifestyle and will continue to push forward.  Working with established organizations, departments, enterprises is another important activity.  The University of Waterloo and Economic Development Agencies across Canada have been challenged.

The Voice

 

A great deal of my energy is giving voice.  I do it in the classroom, the workshop, the community and in the written word.  Exploring the marketplace to find the most appropriate book for my class led me to this British book.  With assistance from the publisher I modified the U.K. version to create the Canadian Edition, eh?

Don't confuse an easy read with a light read.  The authors are entrepreneurs with an amazing ability to present the perils and joys of new venture creation.  It is practical, useful AND read.

The Large

 

Work completed by UW's Registrar's Office and the Department of Athletics and Recreation shaped my capacity to assist large and established organizations in a strategic reshaping exercise.  Note- I didn't write the documents- I didn't even act as a consultant.  My role was to enable the collective enthusiasm and knowledge already present. 

 

With Economic Development my ability to provoke entrepreneurial thinking and programming across Canada (and beyond).  From Whitehorse to Halifax the audience of economic professionals have always been receptive to the disruptive ideas necessary to promote creativity-innovation-entrepreneurship. 

The Small (but mighty)

 

What a pleasure dealing with committed, competent and smart people!

Smaller and equally talented firms also face numerous crisis points.  What seems like a paradox is the reality that the crisis might be one of success (refer to the Beermat for an explanation) are seemingly driven by success.  Often firms have strayed from their initial trajectory.  And still others are distracted by... well... you name it.

 

Some firms have a sixth sense (good ole fashioned intuition) and take proactive steps to ensure the market is effectively served by leveraging the capabilities and resources that define the company...
